*** New Criminology Scholarship Opportunity ***

The Institute of Criminology is pleased to announce the establishment of the
John O'Brien Memorial Scholarships for study in criminal law and criminology. Established by a bequest in 2008 the John O'Brien Scholarships will assist selected students in their Criminology Studies. The John O'Brien Memorial Scholarship is available for both Coursework and Research students. Applicants will be assessed on merit and financial need. Applications will open in October of each year.

Institute Director Associate Professor Gail Mason has been awarded the 2008 ANZSOC Bartholomew Prize for her paper, 'Hate Crime as a Moral Category: Lessons from the Snowtown Case', ANJ of Criminology 40(3), 2007). She will be presented with the award at the 21st ANZSOC Conference in November 2008.

The Institute of Criminology and Sydney University are to host the first International Comparative Criminal Justice Network Fellowship in 2009. Applications close on Monday 24 November 2008 . The fellowship will be awarded to a researcher of high standing at any stage in their career to develop, share and disseminate new and original ideas; to forge collaborative research; and to facilitate interaction within the ICCJNetwork and host institution.
