Do specialist courts offer
the best way forward?
A
seminar presented by the Institute of Criminology
In
Australian jurisdictions, as in other countries,
there have been sustained criticisms of the
legal system's response to sexual assault. Several
countries have responded to such criticisms
by introducing specialised sexual assault courts,
but these remain controversial. In this seminar
three members of the NSW Criminal Justice Sexual
Offences Task Force, established by the Attorney
General in 2004, evaluate the current system
and consider reform proposals such as specialised
courts.
